May Chidiac Assassination Attempt

May Chidiac is a Lebanese journalist and later minister known for her outspoken anti-Syria and anti-Hezbollah positions. On 25 September 2005 in Jounieh, she survived a car-bomb assassination attempt that severely injured her, leading to the amputation of her left leg and later her left arm. The attack came during the wave of political violence following the assassination of Rafic Hariri. After a long recovery, she returned to public life and media work. In response to the attack, she founded the May Chidiac Foundation (MCF). The foundation focuses on media training, research, development, leadership and peace-building.
