Disappearance of Musa al-Sadr

On 24 August 1978, Shia leader Musa al-Sadr departed from Lebanon to Libya for a government visit; he and his two travel companions were last seen on 31 August 1978. Al-Sadr was a seminal leader for the Lebanese Shia community, and founded the Movement of the Disinherited in 1974; his prominance and legacy continued beyond and in light of his disappearance.
