Assassination of Kamal Jumblatt and related massacres

On 16 March 1977, Druze leader Kamal Jumblatt was assassinated in the Chouf region. Following his killing, 177 Christian civilians were killed in several villages in Chouf and in West Beirut, with many of the bodies mutilated and women raped. Further attacks on Christians in the Chouf led the community to flee the area.
